Welcome to CEMBA - the Canadian Executive MBA program offered by ESG University of
Quebec at Montreal UQAM and the Warsaw School of Economics SGH.

GRADUATION CEREMONY - ACADEMIC TRADITION

CEMBA graduation follows the tradition of a full Canadian Graduation Ceremony for all students who successfully complete their program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This gala event usually takes place at SGH.

Traditionally this academic event starts late in the afternoon and has the following agenda:

  • Polish and Canadian anthems sung by SGH - Warsaw School of Economics choir;
  • Welcome - Rector of SGH- Warsaw School of Economics;
  • Speeches delivered by: the ESG-UQAM authorities and SGH- Warsaw School of Economics authorities;
  • Conferring of the MBA degrees together with the presentation of special awards;
  • Address held by the student's valedictorian;
  • Keynote address by the guest speaker;
  • Closing remarks from SGH- Warsaw School of Economics authorities;
  • Choral songs.

After the ceremony ex graduates together with their friends and families are invited to the reception at the SGH - Warsaw School of Economics premises like the Professors Club "Jajko" in the main building.

GRADUATION CEREMONY 2011 COHORT XV. Graduation ceremony for cohort XIV took place on March 10, 2011 in Auditorium I of the building C of Warsaw School of Economics.



GRADUATION CEREMONY 2009: COHORT XIV. Graduation ceremony for cohort XIV took place on December 10, 2009 in Auditorium I of the building C of SGH - Warsaw School of Economics.

GRADUATION CEREMONY 2007:
COHORT XI. Graduation ceremony for cohort XI took place on June 28, 2007 in the Main Auditorium of SGH - Warsaw School of Economics.

GRADUATION CEREMONY 2005: COHORT X. Graduation ceremony for cohort X took place on June 20th 2005 in the Auditorium VII of WSE-SGH. The official part began with the national anthems of Poland and Canada sung by Warsaw School of Economics choir. All guests were welcomed by Vice-Rector of Warsaw School of Economics professor Kazimierz Kloc.



Subsequently, His Excellency Ambassador of Canada to Poland Mr. Ralph Lysyshyn congratulated the new graduates on finishing the hard-working and challenging period of their studies. He also expressed a belief that in the future CEMBA graduates will work towards developing contacts between Poland and Canada.

The next speaker was Professor Michel Librowicz, long-term CEMBA program Coordinator from ESG-University of Quebec at Montreal. The Professor portrayed the beginnings of the Canadian MBA program in Poland and summarised his speech with a conclusion about the success that this project managed to achieve: program was ranked 1st in last Polish MBA ranking published in "Wprost" magazine and a team of students from Cohort XI have won the annual strategic game TEES-6 organised by Cracow Academy of Economics. The ceremony itself was conducted by professor Marek Gruszczyński, Coordinator of CEMBA Program from the Warsaw School of Economics.

The next part of the ceremony was devoted to conferring the MBA diplomas from ESG-University of Quebec at Montreal and the diplomas of Special Studies from SGH- Warsaw School of Economics to the graduates. A valedictorian speech from the graduates was delivered by Ms. Joanna Krajewska, who received one of the highest GPA among students who graduated on that day. The new graduate mentioned the sleepless nights spent on preparing reports and studying for the exams. On behalf of classmates, she thanked the families and friends who supported CEMBA students during the Program.

As part of the CEMBA's 10th anniversary celebration, commemorative medals were presented to those who have significantly contributed to the Program throughout its history: representatives of Canadian Institutions and Universities, Rectors and Vice-Rectors, CEMBA professors, members of CEMBA Advisory Board, Coordinators of the Program, long-term staff of CEMBA office.



The next speaker was Mr. Stanisław Borkowski, CEMBA graduate from cohort IX, president of CEMBA Alumni Association. He presented the performance of the Association and invited the graduates to join in actively.

The keynote speech on the occasion of CEMBA's tenth anniversary was delivered by Vice-Rector of Warsaw School of Economics professor Marcin Nowakowski, the first CEMBA Program Coordinator at - Warsaw School of Economics.





After the official part of the event, the graduates with their families and all guests were invited to attend the cocktail party at the Professors Club. Among the distinguished guests were: epresentatives of the Canadian Embassy in Poland, all former Coordinators of CEMBA, members of the CEMBA Advisory Board, CEMBA professors, CEMBA graduates and present students.

GRADUATION CEREMONY 2004: COHORT IX
On 21st of June 2004 traditionally at the Main Assembly Hall the graduation ceremony for cohort IX alumni took place. The official part began with the national anthems of Poland and Canada sung by the WSE-SGH choir. On behalf of academic authorities all guests were welcomed by Vice-Rector of Warsaw School of Economics, professor Edward Golachowski.

His Excellency Ambassador of Canada to Poland Mr. Ralph Lysyshyn congratulated the new graduates on finishing the hard-working and challenging period of their studies. He also expressed a belief that in the future CEMBA graduates will work towards developing contacts between Poland and Canada.

The next part of the ceremony was devoted to conferring the MBA diplomas from ESG-University of Quebec at Montreal and the diplomas of special studies from WSE-SGH to the graduates. The special commemorative plaque for the best Polish lecturer (on the basis of student's evaluations) went to professor Jacek Miroński, who teaches Organizational Behavior in CEMBA. On behalf of the graduates the speech was delivered by valedictorian Mr. Tomasz Mańko, who received the highest GPA among students graduated on that day. The new graduate mentioned the sleepless nights spent on preparing reports and studying for the exams. On behalf of the classmates he thanked the families and friends who supported CEMBA students during the program.

The next speaker was Mr. Artur Djagarov, CEMBA graduate from cohort V, president of Apteki Polskie SA. In his speech he described the career advancement after finishing the Canadian program. He underlined with pride that the completion of such prestigious foreign studies gave him self-confidence and knowledge, which enabled him to fulfill ambitious business plans. The closing remarks were presented by Vice-Rector of WSE-SGH, professor Marcin Nowakowski. At the end the Warsaw School of Economics choir presented a selection of songs.
After the official part of the event, the graduates with their families and all guests were invited to attend the cocktail party at the Professors Club. GRADUATION CEREMONY 2003: COHORT VIII
Graduation ceremony for cohort VIII was held on 9th of June 2003 in the Main Auditorium of the Warsaw School of Economics.

The following honourable guests were present: - Warsaw School of Economics Rector - prof. Marek Rocki, ESG-UQAM Vice Rector Madame Danielle Laberge, - Warsaw School of Economics Vice Rector - prof. Marcin K. Nowakowski, Ambassador of Canada to Poland - His Excellency Mr. Ralph Lysyshyn (member of CEMBA Advisory Board), ESG-UQAM Project Coordinator - prof. Michel Librowicz and as a guest speaker - Marian Czakański Ph.D. (member of CEMBA Advisory Board) - President of ING Bank Śląski S.A.
Among other distinguished guests were present: professor Irena E. Kotowska, former Director of CEMBA program; Mr. Cristiano Pinzauti, President, Getronics Polska Sp. z o.o., Vice-President, Polish Confederation of Private Employers and member of CEMBA Advisory Board; professor David Stangeland, Department Head at the Department of Accounting and Finance at University of Manitoba, teaching professor of Managerial Finance course in CEMBA program; Mr. Alvaro E. Rodriguez, Coordinator for the International Executive MBA programs at ESG-UQAM.

29 graduates received the MBA diploma and an MBA degree from ESG-UQAM together with the diploma of Special Studies from WSE-SGH. one person also received a diploma of Special Studies from the - Warsaw School of Economics with distinction.

The top student of cohort VIII, Mr. Wojciech Chybowski, President of Pentacomp Sp. z o.o., received the special award - a ticket to Canada and an invitation to visit the Canadian Alma Mater - University of Quebec at Montreal.

The award for the best Polish professor teaching in the CEMBA program went this year (third time in a row) to Jacek Miroński, Ph.D. conducting Organizational Behavior course.

GUEST SPEAKERS

Previous ceremonies have included ministers from the Polish Government, the Polish ambassador to Canada, the Canadian Ambassador to Poland and prominent members of the Polish business community. In June 2003 we had the pleasure to have Marian Czakański, President, ING Bank Śląski SA, former Commercial Counsellor of Poland in Canada, as our guest speaker. In June 2002 our guest was Grzegorz Wójtowicz, Member of Monetary Policy Council.

In June 2001 we had the honour to welcome Henryka Bochniarz, Executive President of Polish Business Council. In December 1999, the former Mayor of Warsaw and Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Marcin Święcicki was the Guest of Honour. In December 1998, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrzej Olechowski, was a keynote speaker. In the May 1998 ceremony, Finance Minister, deputy Prime Minister and President of Polish National Bank, Leszek Balcerowicz, was Guest of Honour. In the 1997 ceremony, Mr. Wiesław Rozłucki, President of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, spoke to the graduates.
